Kielder Forest Observatory
The project considers the building both as functional observatory and as a response to the climate of the north-east of England and the particular environment of Kielder Forest. It aims to use standard building technologies that can be constructed using simple, low-cost techniques. A façade system of profiled and reflective tiles aims to allow the building to make a greater contribution to the environment; the constellations of the night sky glitter in the façade and by day the building is camouflaged by the disrupted and reflected forest backdrop.
