David McGowan - Little Switzerland

The quaint rural village of Matlock Bath in Derbyshire bears a striking resemblance to that of 'Switzerland in miniature'. Through a variety of architectural interventions along staged journey through the town and by altering the physical landforms, the transcendent and experiential qualities of the Swiss Alps are counterfeited. Key to the replication of this identity is to go beyond the application of aesthetic symbol and motif and the technological reproduction of topography and terrain, offering a true augmented Alpine 'essence'.
